Visas

Two friends are getting married this weekend, and they have invited many of their friends from around the region to attend. Among the invited guests are 2 Jordanian ladies who live and work in Dubai.

They applied for their visitors visa through the hotel where they will be staying, and guess what? Their visa requests were denied, and now they will have to rely on local "wasta" and hopefully get their visas ready in time for the wedding.

Several questions arise...

  1. Were they denied the visas because they are Jordanian?
  2. Were they denied because they are single Jordanian females?
  3. Are they are a threat to national security?
  4. Why is it that we can travel anywhere we like but others have to BEG and GROVEL to get a visitor's visa to Kuwait, God's promised land?

Anyways here are my answers which I have put a lot of thought into ;P :

    1) Probably
    2) Probably
    3) Probably
    4) Because Kuwait *is* the equivalent of God's Promised Land on Earth?

  2. Zaydoun, welcome back :) hope it was as good as i heard!

Anyway, as for this subject, I have a lebanese female friend who works for Nestle in Dubai. She has lived all her life in Dubai, she works as a regional manager for a certain product (nesquik, the chocolate milk thingie) and her company decided to send her to Kuwait for a training course and to meet with the managers here. She was denied visas twice and ended up coming 2 months later using her US passport!

So basically, if she's a single female under 30 coming to Kuwait using her Lebanese passport, she MUST be a prostitute. If she's a US single female under 30, she must be a respectable businesswoman coming for work! Its f*cked up I tell ya!

  4. jordanian , egyptian , indian , pakistani , sryians and the rest of the countries which have lower personal income % than kuwait aren't giving Visa on the spot , they are the people who overstay VISA after it expire and just work ilegaly , yet you don't see american or british who overstay visa , thats why hotels can get westren europian and american visas easly , but others have to use wasta mostly

  5. Nobody said visas were easy, but in the end you know you will get them. Whereas here, some fool who can barely read turns down a request and then you pick up the phone to talk to someone higher up and - Presto! - Instant Visa!

  6. nychick, its not the visa process as a process, its how idiotic the rules are.....they fluctuate depending on what sex u r, and what age u r! Where else in the world r u automatically suspected to be prostitute if ur a female under 40 and not married??
