Fake News

Wouldn't it be great if we had a Kuwaiti version of Comedy Central's The Daily Show, with fake news and parodies of real news all the time? Imagine the rich material that a local version could cover. Everything from corrupt government officials, to MPs who didn't finish school, to homegrown "terrorists-in-waiting", to استقبالات الشيوخ to ... my God, the possibilities are endless!!

And just like Jon Stewart, the Kuwaiti host should be a tough interviewer with a wicked sense of humor. He could have people as varied as عواد برد or فجر السعيد or عواطف الحاي and rip them apart for their crimes against humanity and good taste (respectively).

I nominate Abu Hafs for the job. But does he have a photogenic TV face? And will he promise not to ask the guests how many times they go to the bathroom? ;-P

  2. Alas, there is a monster called رقابة and even the new "private" channel Al-Rai will very likely play safe and not want to offend anyone

  3. It needs to be visual. My favorite character on that show is their chief correspondent who delivers the most ridiculous news with a totally serious face. You can't do that on radio

And no one's expecting much from al Rai, they already have 2 Islamic/religeous shows.. Muhammad al Awadhi's and another one with a kuwaiti girl in black (who reminisces about the first time she heard the Quran :S.. - Now honestly, can any of you guys remember the first time you heard Quran recited??

Ghanim al Othman is dead :(

  8. the kuwaiti girl in black reminds me of mariam noor on new tv lol

if you guys dont know... there is another tv station opening in kuwait soon as well... but this one is a religious shiite channel... it will include religious, culturous and historical programs.

as for having mock news of anything mocking for the fact, it can be done on private channels... and actually will be done soon.

  9. If you want to launch a channel of fake news the best place to do it is online. People can always get it one way or another, and the target audience are mostly people who are online. Main stream tv will not be a suitable medium for the messages discussed below.

Just needs some people interested in building an underground media culture.

  11. Been following it since it first started, long before Jon Stewart became the host. Simply the smartest comedy show on American TV and more Americans get thier News from this show than actual - real - news shows!

As for doing a Kuwaiti version of this, it might work if you want to continue the season from Amn Al dawla prison cell. With someone spitting on your face and calling you a traitor.

What I like is how the show never pretends to be Neutral about various issues. The Harvard educated Stewart managed to push late night TV to a new high, such a huge departure from the regular white trash , silly stand up comedy acts of Leno - Letterman and Conan.

CNN tried to air few episodes but they couldnt handle it and they stopped after few.

Whats amazing is how political figures and celebrities agree to be interviewed in the show - it just turns so surreal
