Madonna has withdrawn her anti-war video for her new single "American Life" just a few days before its scheduled premiere. It was apparently filmed before war broke out and she now feels it to be inappropriate, even after re-editing it last week to tone it down. In its controversial ending, which we'll just have to read about for now, she hurls a grenade at a Bush lookalike who then flips its top to light up a cigar. In her statement she says "Due to the volatile state of the world and out of sensitivity and respect to the armed forces, who I support and pray for, I do not want to risk offending anyone who might misinterpret the meaning of this video".
I wonder if she just chickened out after what happened to the Dixie Chicks. And what's with the Patty Hearst getup?
