On TV it looks like US forces are smack in the middle of downtown Baghdad, and it looks like they've seized the Al-Rasheed Hotel. I've only been to Baghdad once, in 1979, and I can't remember where we stayed, which is strange since I can tell you where we stayed in Lebanon in 1970. Anyway, I was there just 2 months before Saddam took complete control of Iraq and purged the ranks of the Baath party for treason in that infamous session at the national assembly - caught on video for posterity. And no, I wasn't there to plot the coup!
