Secular Illusions

I don't know if I should be consoled that it's not just us here in Kuwait suffocating under "religious correctness".. If the world's sole superpower can't keep it's own Christian fundamentalists in check then there's no hope for anyone who believes that religion and politics make a deadly mix, and should be kept as far apart as possible. This article in Slate addresses the American version of our own dilemma, and a review of the book shown above.

  2. Actually its quite the opposite. The "anti-religious" movement in america (and the west in general) is doing everything in their power to destroy religion and paint anyone who believes in god as a religious extremist. The reality is that they are the real extremists! Cases in point:

    * Canada signed into law a 'Bible as hate speech' law. (Actually thats not totally correct. The Bible per se is not declared hate speech but the law makes quoting certain passages in the Bible illegal.)

    http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=38268

    * Homosexuals can get married in a couple of states in the US and have civil unions in several others. I belive the US is only one of six nations in the world where this is even possible. But we're called religious extremists? Also, polls show that 60-80% of americans oppose gay marriage, but most approve of civil unions. So to label those who oppose gay marriage as extremists and fanatics is way off base.

    * These days any politician who utters the word "God" in a speech will be accused of being an extremist by these left-wing idiots. Just read the article you linked to and you'll see that the book's author accuses Bush of extremism for simply asking God for guidance after 9/11. So in other words Bush is a Christian extremist. I wonder if this makes 90% of our presidents Christian extremists? Was Harry Truman (the guy who dropped two atomic bombs on Japan) a religious extremist for saying "God bless you all" in a speech?

    * Recently the ACLU sued the city of Los Angeles because they had a little cross on the lower right side of their flag. This cross has been in place for almost 50 years and was barely noticed by anyone until the ACLU sued over it. (This isn't the first time the ACLU has sued over crosses. Do they have nothing better to do?)

    * The ACLU successfully sued to remove a cross from a makeshift war memorial in the middle of the Mojave desert. (Just imagine the audacity of this, and the utter disrespect for fallen soldiers. Do these idiots have nothing better to do?)

    * The ACLU recently had an office of the Boy Scouts thrown out of a public building because they refused to allow a male transvestite to become a scoutmaster and dress as a female while leading children. (The ACLU sued under anti-discrimination laws.) Throwing children out of public buildings - this is the ultra-left's idea of tolerance.

    * A left-wing idiot in California recently sued to have the words "under god" taken out of the US pledge of allegiance (Its been in the pledge since 1954). The court ruled in his favor, saying that anyone who did not want to say "under god" wouldn't have to. But in keeping with the tradition of left-wing insanity, this moron was not satisfied. He would not be satisfied until he made sure that NO student would be allowed to say "under god" even if they wanted to. Hence he took his case to the supreme court (and lost). By the way, he brought the suit on behalf of his daughter who WANTED to say the pledge and thought her dad was nuts. (His daughter lived with her mother who was divorced from the father.)

I could list many more examples of this utter insanity, but I think you get the picture. I'm not religious myself and I don't believe in god. But I'm sick and tired of these idiots roaming around accusing people of extremism when they are the extremists.

  3. The Middle East is way ahead of the USA in one respect: Our Christian ministers generally have very weak militias. Most church pastors are lucky if they can get 200 people with guns to show up each Sunday morning--let alone have hundreds of pounds of high explosives and heavy machine guns or RPGs. Really, we suck at this aspect of religious quality.
