Playlist June 16 - 22

Very short playlist this week.. its way too hot outside!

  1. Foo Fighters - Miracle: Deceptively simple, beautiful acoustic song from the Fighters' latest album. Features Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones on piano.
  2. Students From Brighton Institute of Modern Music - My My: Don't ask... I just stumbled onto this song online, and I instantly fell in love with the killer chorus. They sound like an alt.rock version of the Fame academy.

This week's classic pick is late 70's punk hit Hong Kong Garden by Siouxsie and The Banshees.

Meanwhile, how cool is this thing?!

  1. the thing is not cool at all. not that i claim to be a DJ of any sort, but i have friends here that DJ on turntables, and most reputable DJs do the same, and they would all kick themselves across the head for using that garbage intended for mass consumption ;)

  2. mishu... you'd be surprised how many internationally reputable "vinyl-head" DJs quietly switched to CDs after years of swearing they'd never do it..

In any case, this gizmo is probably intended for amateurs

  3. It's pretty sad when your "classic pick" is a band whose concert I went to (and whose concert t-shirt I still wear occasionally. . . )

  4. zaydoun: try to find some downloads on Scratch Brothers, U.N.K.L.E, James Lavelle, and im sure youve heard of Pete Tong amongst others, all of them use vinyl

  5. sarah... many of my classic picks are from bands that are still around. Unless you're telling me you saw them when Hong Kong Garden came out! :-)

Mishu... read this story about Pete Tong especially the bit that says.. "The cynic will always suggest this is pretty good going for a man whose job appears to involve no more than sticking a sequence of different CDs into a pair of decks and pressing play (turns out international superstar DJs have long since mostly abandoned vinyl)"
