In a brave about-face, Egypt's leading Muslim cleric, Sheikh Mohammed Tantawi has come out against Saddam Hussein and blames him for the unnecessary bloodshed in Iraq, which could've been averted if he had just gone into exile. He even went as far as to call Saddam's wars against Iran and Kuwait "terrorism". He is still very critical of the US-led war but I wish he had urged young outraged Muslims not to go fight for Saddam, or at least not to offer their lives as martyrs for him. The Iraqi people need more protection from Saddam's thugs than the coalition.
