- The Honeymoon - Dialogue: I downloaded the debut album by this duo from Iceland, in its entirety from iTunes and it does not disappoint. Sweet and breezy light pop, not exactly chilled-out and very easy on the ears.
- Toufic Farroukh - DrabZeen: I've had this CD since early last year, and I pulled it out yesterday to play by the pool then popped it into the car on the way home. I usually don't like hybrids of Arabic and jazz, but this album is executed with such class it's absolutley hypnotizing. And unlike Ziad Rahbani's compositions, there's not one stray note!
- Janet Jackson - All Nite (Don't Stop) : This sizzling track has lodged itself in my head and refuses to leave!

If you like Farroukh, you might enjoy Anouar Brahem. I no longer have my favorite Brahem CD (which I think was called Thimar) coz I gave it away (willingly) :( but i'm listening to his "Conte de l'incroyable amour" these days and it's not bad.
ReplyDeleteRabih Abou Khalil beats them both though. I don't have his latest coz I'm never a devout fan, but it should be good.
Take it easy on Ziad. He's not Jazzy enough, but he's fun? and those stray notes make him the special middle-aged/kid he is.
I'd love to take credit for that expression, but I read it all the time in the Arabic papers. قوى الظلام
ReplyDeleteI adore Toufic Farroukh's Drab:zeen ... have had it for 2 years now... do u know if they guy released anything recently? Suprisingly enough, this album didn't become as popular as Said Mrad or Guy Manoukians CDs... it's a good thing though!

ReplyDeleteso is guy manoukian..... there are several arab artists who are creating good stuff but aren't getting any credit.... usually when i go to beirut, i browse to the cds to find some unknown arab dude and check his stuff out... u would be suprised by the amount of good stuff there......

Dude.. Chicks on Speed have been on Kuwait's FM for months. FM 99.7 always gets a bad rap because the DJs are so lame but they have some really good stuff when they get around to playing it.
