Outfoxed

Last night I watched "Outfoxed - Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism" on DVD. It's a frightening documentary about the inner workings of FOX News and Rupert Murdoch's media empire.

Since we've grown up in Kuwait and the Arab world on state-controlled television which functions as a mouthpiece for our governments, I could've just shrugged it off and not been so appalled. But as I've said before, we hold the USA to a much higher standard than what we apply to ourselves, and to see a powerful yet dishonest American news channel controlled by one extreme right-wing AUSTRALIAN megalomaniac, intent on distorting the truth to serve his own goals... well, it gave me the creeps!

The film was full of interviews with former Fox News employees and some current ones who insisted they remain anonymous for fear of reprisal. The film's director even managed to get hold of some truly disturbing internal memos that dictated how certain news events were to be spun in favor the Bush administration. Most shocking example: Playing down the daily killings of American soldiers in Iraq, in order to fool Americans that everything is going smoothly there so as not to hurt Bush in this election year.

Of course FOX News has every right to follow whatever agenda they like, but to present themselves as "fair and balanced" when they're anything but that, is a little hard to swallow. It's a Republican propaganda machine and should just come out and admit it. It's also very depressing that an increasing majority of Americans get their news from Fox, and that it just distorts their already limited knowledge of world affairs.

  2. As it happens, I know Waleed Al-Awadhi quite well. He directed a movie about 9/11 using footage he shot himself because his office used to near the twin towers.

  6. For the 5 days I worked for FOX, I?ve experienced 2 ?Fair & Balanced? incidents which led me to quit.

    1. A Political studies professor from K.U. was magically transformed into a ?Terrorism Expert?.
    2. FNC apparently discovered the undiscoverable about Khalid Shaikh Mohammed: The so called Kuwaiti born Pakistani accused of being a 9/11 mastermind, Fox was able to pin point the neighborhood he grew up in, the school he went to and even interviewed a classmate of his!! The whole story is a complete fabrication because according to news agencies; CIA & FBI Have swept Fahaheel for over 1 month before Fox news decided to do a follow-up on Khalid?s Capture and found absolutely no leads on him ever existing in Kuwait. In 3 hrs, FNC did what the CIA & FBI couldn?t do in 1 month.
With no DOB, whose to say if he did or did not grow up in Kuwait?

Most of its members are crude actors competing against one another for fame. If anyone is to blame for this hideous phenomena it?s the audience who rely on ex talk show hosts and pathological liars for real news.
People give Murdoch and his dimwitted clan at FNC too much credit by accusing them of being right-wing or sympathetic with Israel, they don?t have any agenda?s besides ratings and greed.

  8. Left or right "LEANING" is totally acceptable. But FOX is just brutal, and revels in its blatant disregard for the truth. I don't see CNN as left-leaning at all, not since FOX showed up anyway..

  10. For example... that post just up there, addressed to Anonymous is not the real Zaydoun. I don't know who it is, and it was done overnight while I was asleep so God knows how long it's been up there and how many people saw it or the other post that I just got rid of.
