Best Arab Blog Awards - The Winners

No I didn't win... but hey at least I lost to So I Want To Be An Astronaut, who deserved to win. And I'm happy that Grandma Funk won for Best Humor Blog too.

Thank you all for voting... I'll keep the banner up for a few more days, like those half-baked movie posters that feature an Academy Award nomination for Best Sound or something...

And of course, as is the norm with Arabic voting habits... there were bound to be some irregularities and forgeries, resulting in mass disqualifications!!

Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose!

  1. Too bad about those rampant forgeries and disqualified categories...your fans still watching and enjoying :) All the best to you.

  2. hey you speak German! way cool man ;)

about those disqualifications: it had to be done, there were just a few people who were just a tad too desperate and we had to weed them out. Unfortunately a lot of good folk fell through in the process.

The mistake we fell into? Being too trusting.

We left the gates wide open for everyone to vote without the need to register, however the system was set up to accept one vote per IP, but some unscrupeulous people went around that restriction by playing with the settings of their browser.

What we decided to do for next year is to switch on the restrictions - one person one vote - by limiting voting only to registered users. As the registration process demands a unique email address, one would hope that desperation would be tempered with inconvenience.

No matter. These were the very first encompassing Arab bloggers award and I know that a lot of people enjoyed participating in it. Haitham and I certainly enjoyed creating it.

The side effect of course is that we now have quite a number of Arab blogs listed! It's become an excellent directory of Arab blogs and bloggers.

    Thank you all for participating.

For the record, if I were to vote (I didn't, conflict of interest) I would have voted Kuwait Unplugged for both Best Arab Blogs Award Arabic AND English! What else can I do, KU is one of my first stops every morning!

Hard Luck, next time, enshallah. I could have voted from all the machines at work, but that did not sound fair.

    Congrats to the winner.

I was voting constantly for you, Jackie, so I want to be an astronaut, the Don, and UZF on different issues, but Jackie told me that the voting has stopped so I stopped voting. Why did they display the results then if there were forgeries? This is not fair

  10. Rabab... there were forgeries in some categories, and you'll notice those categories were dropped.
