I just want to cry whenever I pass by the Emarat stations around Dubai. And they've existed in this shape since at least 1998, if not before!
And what kills me is that Kuwait Petroleum is no stranger to proper brand management, just not here in Kuwait apparently. A visit to Italy, for example, breaks my heart when I see the shiny Q8 stations everywhere.

ReplyDeleteHWKW.. If our gas stations were just plain or average it wouldn't matter. But they are downright depressing eyesores.. And as an oil-producing country that can surely afford it, they do need to be improved... And btw, this is a discussion not an argument. You can take your crankiness elsewhere

Last time I was in Kuwait .. I drove into a gas station looking for an ATM. And the last time I checked .. they didnt even accept bank cards at gas stations!
ReplyDeleteIts depressing to see how many ppl think that its perfectly ok for gas stations to keep running the way they are! Its worse seeing how many ppl dont value the branding side of it!
ReplyDeleteThink of it this way, there's Kuwait Airways, and there's British Airways, they both take you from one point to another, but how come BA bothered with good food, good staff, fully reclining seats, tv screens for every seat, great lounges in the airports...and so on, while Kuwait Airways still takes u the same place but with no extra services and makes u feel like uve entered the world's oldest airline!

ReplyDeleteIt's not a matter of grocery and convenience. Most of the stations don't even have the space for that, and the ones on the highways are evolving in that direction even though its outsourced to Sultan Center Express.
But the ones in town are run down and depressing, and do not fit the image of a wealthy country that owes its wealth to oil
