I guess I missed this interview last month, mainly because I don't watch Al-Jazeera. And I didn't receive it by email either even though it's apparently been viewed over a million times. My email filter must be working!
But what guts for her to speak out like this, and denounce the current global conflicts as a clash between the those living in the Middle Ages and those in the 21st Century. Here's a clip from the interview.
Of course, as expected, she's been receiving all kinds of hate mail and death threats. I don't particularly agree with some of her points, but her overall thesis seems sound and can apply to extremism in all religions, not just Islam.
What do you think?

She definitly did have guyts! Just like you Zaydoun I agree with some things and I have to admit she does have a valid point!
ReplyDeleteI can also see NyChick's prespective but I have to say that it doesn't matter whether it was a muslim or non muslim who said what the Dr. said, it's the showing of freedom of speech that is apparent!
Dr. Ibrahim did have a point like NyChick said but I have to say that Wafa Sultan did have a point!
I feel sorry for Dr.Ibrahim .. He is probably used to winning arguments by questioning their relgious affiliation or 'iman' .. then he goes and gets a intelligent secular female. ;)
ReplyDeleteYeah .. she has some valid points (and some extreme/unnecessary ones) ... My 0.02$, people need to stop challenging extremes with other extremes. In the end you will have two ignorant people screaming left/right at the top of their lungs.
Maybe next time Doc.
Whether she's right or wrong actually pales next to her courage in appearing on AL-JAZEERA and saying what she said.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people say what she says, only they hide behind small obscure websites, books and even blogs. This woman said it in front of millions of excitable Jazeera viewers. And now she's getting death threats!
Zaydoun,
ReplyDeleteI can't believ I missed out on this post/interview!
NyChick,
KtheKuwaiti,
I wouldn't call Wafaa here an extremist, but i do agree with you to a certain extent.
