Playlist November 17 - 23

The big release of the season...

  1. Madonna - Confessions on a Dancefloor: A roaring return to clubland after the dismal "American Life". While I can't really see ALL of the tracks getting the party started without some additional DJ magic, they are nonetheless great tunes. The standout track for me is "Jump", which is classic Madonna!
  2. Fort Minor - Believe Me: I never liked Linkin Park much, but this track from their MC Mike Shinoda's side project is pretty good. Is he related to this guy?
  3. Mattafix - Passer By: Can you imagine Blind Melon with a hip-hop beat? This is what this cool song sounds like.
  4. Burt Bacharach - Go Ask Shakespeare: A soundtrack for walking alone down a dark, rainy street in London or New York after breaking up with your lover. Vocals by Rufus Wainwright just add to the melancholy.
  5. Ralph Myerz & The Jack Herren Band - L.I.P.S.T.I.C.K.: You would never expect these goons to put out such a sexy, sophisticated song.

As the 80's revival continues in Dubai, showing no sign of slowing down with so many Brit expats living there, The Human League are playing there tonight. So my classic pick for this week is Love Action (I Believe in Love).

  1. its good I did not post that as weekend classic, would have been freaky!

  2. Missy Elliot & Busta Rhymes will be performing here in December ..

  3. moryarti... for a second I thought you were being sarcastic

    Until I saw THIS

  4. the big release of the decade: KATE BUSH :) yeaaaaaaaahhhhhhh. 12 years?!!! 7aram 3alaich!

"sunset" on a sky of honey, CD 2, is an absolute gem.

  5. they sort of ring a bell! I just can't state it

  6. Saudi prince convicted of vehicular homicide while driving drunk in b-town:

just glad it wasn't a Kuwaiti

  7. Its true Zaydoun .. Tickets are also cheap! About KD 10 or 12 only for a standing ticket!

I have a couple of friends flying over from kwuait for a night on AirArabia just to attend the concert, have a "night out" in town and back the next morning.

nb: thank you for your kind note on my blog :)

  8. Madonna's extended "Hung Up" is one I would recommend. It's illustrious, decadent yet narcotic.

  9. moryarti... I'll wait for someone like Coldplay

eclectic... it is indeed very decadent!

  10. Z,

This is OT, and I don't mean to intrude, but, having read moryarti's excellent post "On Kuwait", I think you might want to consider re-posting it here, with his permission of course.

I think it would be valuable for fellow bloggers in the Kuwait blogsphere to read it and to react to how we see ourselves and how others see us.

  11. Jambino... you read my mind. Was thinking of how moved I was when I read it and was just waiting to get home and write it.

    I'll do it right now

Keep it clean, people!
